Can you set the units in Ac3d eg mm, or metres so you can model to scale when modelling objects

I send all my stuff finally to VRML. In VRML a value of 1 = a meter. So I set the major grid to 1 and the snap grid to .1.
Everything then is built at these settings unless i need to combine stuff or adjust things ... then I will alter the snapgrid to smaller values. Or if working with a terrain ... then I may take the major grid to 10 or more and the snapgrid to 1. No idea what scales are used in the various games though. griff ![]() |

Interesting.. i just created a cube 10cubed and brought it into rhino (set the rhino app units to mm) the cube measures 10mm BUT if i set the rhino units then repeat the import process to metres it reads it as 10m
However if i repeat the same proceedure in 3dmax when i set the app units to metres it reads 10m BUT if i set the app units to mm it reads 1000mm So it seems safer to use metres as the file units or think of units in ACD3 as metres.. thanks |

Just out of interest murray, I created a 1 unit cube (Ac3d settings I normally use 1,0.1) and exported it as a .obj and a .lwo file. Loaded it into Lightwave. Lightwave tells me dimensions of the cube are 1 metre ... which is what I always assume for vrml.
However, depending on the zoom level in Lightwave, the major and minor grid changes values. So for example setting the zoom to *fit all* the cube is *2* major grid units high and wide ... but it always tells me it is a one metre object. Same for both .obj and .lwo griff ![]() |

AC3D stock unit is the meter I've always thought. It was mentioned here ages back.

If that's the default unit, why is the surface area of one of my models something like -.1H00 or thereabouts?

sounds like some that autocad would have. because I know in autocad you can setup the different settings to be like a meter a foot or radius and diameter.

I think that there would only be real scale if it was meant for things to be built in real life.
