surface area
What is a good target for surface area when creating objects for video games? Can someone give me some guidance on polygon counts and surface area. You know like what the average computer might handle. Thanks in advance.

This is very dependant on the games you are making models for. More modern games can cope with larger number of polygons, although they will still impose limits.
From my experience, games tend to scale objects based on real life meters - which would be one AC3D unit per meter. e.g. a human character would be around 2 meters tall. Still, this will vary from game to game. Texturing objects can make the most simple shapes look like they are actually much more complicated. The same with smoothing object surfaces. From a few simple polygons, you can give the illusion of a more rounded shape. Andy |
