There's probably a knife tool in here somewhere, but I use the Add Vertex keyboard command (select two adjacent vertices and hit Ctrl + Shift + I) to stick a new vertex between them. Move down a row, do that again. Select the two new vertices (or a whole row of them one at a time, in the order they are to be cut) and hit Ctrl + Shift + L to slice a line between them.

I think, if I were to be able to remove vertices from the M4 figure, it would probably be a lot less daunting. M4 is insanely high poly, and I just don't need that many polys on my suit.
Yeah, you'd probably be better off going with one of the low rez male models from the Poser 1 directory. Or, barring that, you can always use the AC3D Reduce tool and tell it to cut the number of poly's in the mesh down by 50%. It'll make the model a little jagged, but nothing you can't smooth out when you're fixing the coat. Just keep reducing until you have a suitably workable surface. Only problem with that approach is that it likes to make triangles instead of quads, which can be harder to work with. Another option would be to manually merge poly's together by highlighting them with the surface tool and hitting C. Its more tedious that way, but it gives you better control.

Thankyou again for your help, much appreciated!
Your welcome. Just hope it helps you get your coat made, and that you can go on to sell it for $5 to a couple hundred thousand people and be able to retire on your delicious profit. I won't even ask for a cut. =P

AHA! I had just typed out a post, asking about using a lower res figure! I think it might work better, as the only really tight bits on the race suit are the cuffs and ankles. It'll be a different story for the boots, and another entirely for the gloves, lol!

Well, if I can get this all made properly, you're welcome to them! I doubt I could sell them on Rendo, as they apparently need tons of details on your accounts and stuff, which I don't have. :-/

Thats for really conforming clothing.

There's another option you could do for a looser item like a heavy coat. Do the copy/paste method above, but do it only for a ring around the torso. Clean that up to reduce the number of poly's, then just extrude it up one row at a time, and adjust each row as you go.

It would be a lot like creating a new torso from scratch, but it may end up being easier on you than trying to simplify a high rez poser model down to the point you can use the above method.

But, thats the beautiful thing about this hobby/profession/whatever, there's always a million different ways to do the exact same thing, you just find the one that works best for you in any given situation.

Thanks!

Well, I've just tried it out, and after around 10 minutes, reduced M4 by 50%. You're right, AC3D LOVES to triangulate everything, lol! He's also still very high poly, especially around the nipples. I might try using a lower res figure, but that's all I can do for tonight, and possibly until next week, as I'm marshalling at Silverstone over the weekend and will probably not have much time or energy to do owt til then, lol!

I'll update this thread with some screenies, if all goes well. If it doesn't, I'll be whining here instead, lol!

All the best, have a great weekend, whatever you're doing!

Glen.

Hi folks!

Just a quick update on my progress: I've made a medium poly suit in AC3D. Not 100% happy with it, but I think it'll do. I have a problem, however. When I export it and import it to Poser, a whole load of faces are missing all over the suit! Does anyone know what might be causing this, please?

Many thanks!

Glen.
