Hollow pipe-how to
While I''m at posting questions here's another
I wish to draw a hollow tube, meaning a longish pipe with an outside dimeter of say, 8 cm in diameter with a 6mm wall thickness and 3 m long (Example only), visually it does have to be precise, mainly I need to know how what method is used to make a image of a hollow tube. :?: |

Make two tubes, on the same axis. (don't cap ends)
Say we make them along z axis (Make tube at front view). One tube size to x=0.8, y=0.8, z=5 One tube size to x=0.6, y=0.6, z=5 Move both to 0/0/0 Take the inner tube, and flip normals Mark both tubes and merge them. Create new surfaces at the edge of both tubes Voila - ready...

Thanks that did the job I have a tube, on the last step
"Create new surfaces at the edge of both tubes" can't get this to work, what needs to be done? |

Ok, now you have to tubes...
Go to vertice mode Select two vertices of tube1 and the same two vertices on tube2 Press ctrl-shift S to create a surface between them. Select vertices counterclockwise...

First the note: Did you merge the two tubes?
Second: Red lines are an invalid poly. If you dont select the single vertices counter clokwise. Select both tubes in object mode. press ctrl+shift+M to merge them to one object. The select two(!) vertices of each tube, where a new surface should be created. Select those 4 vertices counter-clockwise (thats important) Then create new surface using ctrl+shift+S

An easier method is to make a line 8cm away from the axis, and 6mm long. Then revolve the line (object->revolve) to make a ring. Then extrude the ring to make a pipe.

not really try it and see what you get.
I think you mean 1 - make ellipse 2 - set surface type to poly 3 - make hole 4 - extrude |
