Visible triangle lines after performing 'Make Hole'
All,
I'm experiencing an issue with the 'Make Hole' feature. I create a box - an house wall, for example - and then I want to put a window on the middle of it. To do that, I select the box object, and then I use the 'Make Hole' tool. Looking closely at the just modified surface, I can see the lines that from the box vertices go to each vertex being added by the 'Make Hole' operation. This effect is also noticeable on my 3D viewer, Blitz3D. Sadly, it happens also with the surface textured. I wonder, is there any method to get rid of this lines ? I've noticed also, that this phenomen does not happen if the hole is build on a single surface - I mean, using a mesh instead of a box primitive. Thanks in advance, Sergio. |

Not sure exactly what you mean by *lines*. However, if you start with a box object (it has 6 faces), calling the make hole function is going to make a hole in each face. If the box is being used it probably has 4 *thin* faces ... could these holes be your lines?
If you only want a hole in one face ... highlight it by switching to vertex mode then selectiong the vertices for the face you want to make the hole in. Now select the make hole function. A hole in only one face. Regards, griff |

Thank you griff for your answer.
I mean the lines that connect the vertices - they are visible, and I guess it has to do with vertex shading. Anyway, I've this issue when I export to .3DS from within AC3D. If I export to .X instead, that lines are no more visible, and the surfaces appear correct as expected. So, better to export to .X than to .3DS. Sergio. |

Hi Sergio,
I don't know about exporting as .x files, but I believe .3ds files are exported as triangles only (no quads or higher polygons). That may then explain the shading/visibility effect you are seeing. Regards, griff |

Hi griff,
yes I believe so too. And, many thanks for the 'an hole on a single face' hint ! Sergio. |
