My first 3D CNC...Dennis's Gear
Hello All,
Well, I do CNC as a hobby. Actually, this is one of my first true 3D CNC. Here is a link to the photo. I was having troubles uploading to the website.. http://www.tattoosfromgrease.com/test/gear.jpg I used a example model that was posted on the forum. Thanks, Dennis! This is a two sided CNC. I kinda screwed up when I cut it. I forgot to cut, the cut-out cut. Also, it is a little rough.... This is what I plan on using AC3D for, my modeling for CNC. I will post more as I get more proficient. Grease |

Wow - very impressive.
Please tell us the process here - do you export from AC3D as STL and then put that in your CNC machine? When posting attachments, keep the images less than 640x480 and not too big file sizes, otherwise the upload will fail as you discovered. You can also inline the image - click the mountain/image icon and paste in your image URL. If your webspace may vanish in the future, it's best to attach the image. |

Re: My first 3D CNC...Dennis's Gear
Hey Andy,
Actually, I convert the file to a .dxf. Then I import it into my Cut3D program. Vectric.com Once imported into Cut3D, it figures out all the tool paths for both sides. It does a rough cut, to cut away the excess, then it does a finishing cut to clean it all up. I am into RC cars and motorcycles. I am designing (in AC3D) some rims and other stuff for my custom RC motorcycle. I am still kinda new at the CNC stuff. I will post more pictures as I go. I plan on doing some more test stuff..Some example models from AC3D. One thing though...Cannot do any undercuts. I can CNC them in aluminum or whatever. The gear was done in wax, then if one wanted to, you could cast it. Done some modeling many years ago, (3D Studio, Imagine) just getting back into it. AC3D is a super modeling program...Very easy to use... Grease |

Very impressive !!
If Andy has nothing against that: Can you post some technical data and a picture of your CNC-Equipment ? I'm very interested in that Thanks in advance |

Re: My first 3D CNC...Dennis's Gear
Here is a photo of my setup.
It is a Sherline mill. I used IMservice upgrade to make it cnc. 3 Axis, soon to be 4 axis. The biggest I can do is about 4" x 12". Right now, my X axis is in need of a new bearing. I will have it next week. I have several jobs that I have designed in AC3D. I will post when I finish them.. Amazing... Almost anything you do in AC3D, you could actually make a physical working model. A good site for info on cnc is: www.cnczone.com G |
