Merging two AC files and copy / paste
Can anyone tell me how to merge (combine) two .ac files into one file? Will it maintain the correct materials and group hierarchy? Also, is it possible to copy an object from one .ac file, and paste it into another .ac file?
Thanks!! |

Re: Merging two AC files and copy / paste
Ooh, you probably *don't* want to do it by copy and paste. I'm pretty sure all the vertices, etc, are indexed, so you'd have to renumber them all by hand or it's going to turn your model file into gibberish.
You can combine two files from the file menu, though. Open your first .AC file, then File > Import your second .AC file to combine them. If you have a bunch of files to do, you can use the TCP\IP interface or a script to batch convert them. EDIT: I just realized you might have meant "copy and paste from within AC3D" and not "copy and paste the guts of the AC3D file in a text editor". Copying and pasting *inside* AC3D from the Edit menu works ok. Copying and pasting the raw file in a text editor is a bad idea. Last edited by lisa; 14th March 2008 at 05:57 PM. |

Re: Merging two AC files and copy / paste
Hi. Thanks for the advise on merging two files. As far as copy/paste, I was wondering how to copy an object from one ac file, and paste it into another ac file by using ctrl-C ctrl-V.

File/Merge is probably what you're looking for (?)
