Re: VISTA 32 AC3D won't start (black cmd screen)
I have the same problem...
When I click the shortcut (doig so with "run as administrator") I get a blank DOS cmd window and then a crash. Since I have Visual Studio installed, I am offered to debug the problem. I can't begin to demo the software if it won't run. Please help, Jeff |

Re: VISTA 32 AC3D won't start (black cmd screen)
I must first thank Andy in his attempts to help me via email on this problem.
I will report here on what works should any other Vista 32-bit customer have problems with the program not starting: I was able to get AC3D to work by disabling DEP - (Data Execution Prevention - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa468629.aspx or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Execution_Prevention) - for the AC3D.exe . The instructions I followed for disabling DEP for a specific program are discussed here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/65...-programs.html I will not claim to know what wider implications this has for either DEP or AC3D and AC3D is certainly not the only program to run afoul of Vista's DEP implementation. In any case, if you are on Vista 32-bit (althogh I suspect 64-bit might raise the same issue) and find that AC3D won't launch, try my work-around if other more common work-arounds don't pan out. Those common-work-arounds are: 1) run as administrator 2) turn off anti-virus Jeff |

Re: VISTA 32 AC3D won't start (black cmd screen)
AC3D runs fine on both 64 and 32 bit Vista premiums for me after selecting the run as admin in shortcut properties.
It even ran fine as non admin but I could not save anything. Vista 32 Premium:sp1/Ubuntu 8.04 hardy Acer 5610 laptop 2.5 GB ram 950 intel graphics video ram shared 224MB onboard. duo core 32bit 1.73 Vista 64 Premium:sp1 BareBones kit. amd 64bit phenom x4 9500 asus nforce 560 m2n-sli motherboard 4 GB ram nvidia 8500GT 1GB pci-ex 2 more Windows XP:sp3 pc's flawlessly. Compaq s4000nx 2.4 celeron 32bit 1GB ram nvidia 6200 GT 256MB pci emachines T6212 amd 64bit 3200+ 1GB ram ati hd2600 pro viper 512MB pci-ex So its working here good all round even on Ubuntu 8.04 hardy . (6.2 was, not 6.4) Last edited by tyjbr; 16th July 2008 at 07:33 AM. |

So long as I disable DEP, AC3D works just fine.
Otherwise, enjoying the software so far. |

Re: VISTA 32 AC3D won't start (black cmd screen)
you really should not have to disable it and if you do some other programs wont seem to run right sometimes.atleast thats what happened to me after disabling dep awhile back.it wasnt for ac3d though ,i just got tired of all the dam popups lol.

Re: VISTA 32 AC3D won't start (black cmd screen)
Hi all,
Just wondering if any information or solutions have come up regarding this? I'm having the exact same trouble as the OP with the demo (6.528) and have tried the following; The default DEP "for essential Windows programs and services only" DEP for all programs except those selected, selecting AC3D Disabling DEP altogether (using "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff") Reinstalling the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Running as an administrator Turning off AV (AVG) and firewall (Comodo) with no result, or changes in 'symptoms'. Are the problems solved with Windows 7, with release being only a few weeks away now? Thanks. Intel Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz GeForce 9800 GT Vista Home Premium (SP2) |
