Problem with wavefront object file
I have a large model file ( test1.obj ) that will load in to ac3d. The problem that I am having is that if i try to do anything with the file the program gives me the following error:
Last Error (not necessarily the problem): Not enough storage is available to process this command. I hope that there is some way to solve this. Out of all the different cad/optimization programs that I have tried, ac3d is the only one that doesn't crash when loading the file. The file size is: 214 megabytes The number of vertices is: 6,479,324 The number of faces is: 3,239,662 Here is a link for the file in zip format ( 30.4 megabytes) http://www.badongo.com/file/11412149 Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Problem with wavefront object file
It works for me. Try increasing your virtual memory.
For me it was surfaces:1,619,831 vertices:6,479,324 (commas added) Is this earth or moon? |

Re: Problem with wavefront object file
The model is a very small portion of the united states. It was created from a srtm file.
I increased my virtual memory to 4 gigabytes. Unfortunately that is the limit for my operating system ( Win xp home edition - 32 bit ). I am still having the same problem. Hopefully there are some other options that I can try. It would be a major pain to try and cut the srtm files into smaller sections. I appreciate any and all help with this problem. Thanks |

Re: Problem with wavefront object file
I tried a number of other 3D software packages and they all failed to load the file (most crashed).
It works with AC3D this PC which has 2gig ram. Perhaps you need to add some more main memory? (this PC is also running the same OS as you) 1.6 million polys is a lot to handle all at once (for any PC/software) so it might be best to split it into multiple objects. |

Re: Problem with wavefront object file
Thanks for taking the time to look at this problem. After getting your responce, I started checking out my pc for problems because I have 4 gigabytes of ram installed in it. I think that my problem is now a memory problem. Windows is telling me that I only have 3 gigabytes of ram in the system instead of 4. I guess I will need to test the memory and replace the bad one. Splitting up the files is probably the best way to go. That will keep me busy for a while. There are 1089 srtm files to cut up and turn into models. These files cover the entire united states.
