Symmetry/Mirror help and questions...
So by messing around I figured out how to mirror things through the X,Y,Z axis' but I can't for the life of me figure out how to make the mirrors effects permanently stay.
For example, I want to make a face...so I would turn on Mirror X axis, but when I go to upload or whatever, it just removed the other side so I no longer have a symmetrical shape. Any help would be appreciated. |

How about unchecking the "offset duplicates" box (File menu -> settings), duplicating your object and then mirroring the duplicate? That's the way I do it.
Just make sure that the 'seam' surface of your original is flat and lies on the plane defined by two axes - however even forgetting that is no capital sin: you just select two homologous vertices on either half after mirroring, and then snap the two halves together (snap objects by vertices). Couldn't be easier :-) P.S.: in particular if the result has to be smooth (as for instance when you're dealing with a face), once you're done it's also advisable to merge the two halves together and optimize the vertices, so that the surfaces across the seam become contiguous. |

There's also an object > mirror command beyond the realtime mirror. This does what the realtime mirror does, but makes the mirror permanent. e.g. Build your object with the realtime mirror on, then when you're completely happy, click Object > mirror > [whatever axis] and it will commit the geometry.
