Do partially highlighted surfaces mean a problem exists?
In this pic of a piece I'm working on, some of the polygons are partially highlighted.
This is my second or so attempt and I find that it starts to mess up as I progress, so I'm wondering if the partial highlights signify a problem I need to fix before I move on. |

I got 2 accounts on this pc, and it doesn't do this on one account and it does on the other, with the same model. The surfaces select is screwed on my system anyways, the selecting is nowhere near accurate to where my selecting box is, in both orth and 3d view. Its because the surfaces are not flat. The selection color have trouble with non flat quads. It do not mean you have a problem.

Do you mean that the surface is the only reason?

Re: Do partially highlighted surfaces mean a problem exists?
No, it's that the render engine for AC3D is just not the best. Sometimes, when you zoom WAY in, you'll see surface selection colors appear and disappear, as the renderer undergoes "z-fighting"; it's trying to "decide" whether to display the selection color or not, or which layer has display priority; especially on thin, two-sided objects where one side is selected and the other is not.
When your 3D surfaces have problems that actually affect the integrity of the model, you'll see red or blue lines along the surface borders. Those are the "real" problems! In that screen grab, I see no apparent problems.

The artifacts are caused by the scaling in the view and it's nothing to worry about. If you switch the viewer to walk-mode, you should never see the same effect.
