Nice work!
You'll need an external renderer if you want to make the chrome reflective. But, you can still make it look a little more metal-like by jacking up the specular. You'll want to play with the shininess setting in particular. Shininess controls the size of specular highlight. Higher values give you smaller, sharper highlights simulating a harder surface; lower values create a larger, softer highlight. |

Not sure... AC3D only saves materials if they are in-use. Perhaps this is what you are seeing? If the material isn't used on your model, it will be lost when you save the file. You can apply it to a temporary shape in your model to save it. Sometimes I put commonly used materials onto shapes and add them to the library so I can recall them later.
