That looks great. I dig the panoramic "windows"!

There's my inspiration. It ended up being a fake ship made by someone to trick Voyager, but I still think it was awesome. Also, I'm going to base engineering on the engine room for the Dauntless.

I got bored and blew the Avenger up. I'm still working on all those stupid windows and random details, so it'll be a while until she's done. Yep, I suck at explosions.

Nah, through some turbulence on the explosion, that should fix it.
Did you paint the nebula? I know you were working on some before. Looks good. |

Thanks for the tip, would I do that in photoshop or a renderer?
Also, haha no, that nebula wasn't made by me. It was a pre-made background I found on a Star Trek site. I still have a ways to go until I can make any backgrounds that good.

In the renderer. If you're using POV, it's a pattern modifier command.
You've actually got 90% the right idea--a sphere with a gradient in it--you just need to swirl it around a bit. I hadn't done my blog post for the day yet and I needed a topic, so I coded up an example: http://www.independentdeveloper.com/...sma-in-pov-ray Believe-it-or-not, it's almost exactly the same thing you've got cooking in your scene, it's just applied as turbulent media. What's nifty is that if you do it in POV, it's an actual 3D thing... you can rotate around it, do animations, etc. On my post, I rendered a turntable of the plasma so you can see what I mean. Oh! You might also have fun with this site. It's macros for making nebula in POV: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconVall...34/galaxy.html |

Lisa, you're an absolutely wonderful person. Has anyone ever told you that? Thanks to you, my renders are probably going to improve tenfold or more!
