Default Viewing Change - diff controls!

im trying to create maps for games right now.
the modeling part is great fun! and its all good to view your world from a 'sky' view (3dwindow spin mode)

but there comes a time when i just want to 'move' about my world close up
i know there a second type of viewing, which is the 'walk mode'
but to be honest, this mode isn't usful to me
its almost imposible to move or 'walk' around in my maps

so basicly im just sugesting a new viewing mode(fly mode mabye) or change of the current walk mode to somthin like...

hold leftmouse to 'pivot' or 'look' around the camera position
use the arrow key to 'move' about the world
...so pressing forward would move you along the looking direction

would be great.

anyways thanks for having this sugestions thread , its great just to be able to post ideas

You mean like using Quake with a mouse and cursor keys?

Set the FOV higher to make walking around models a bit nicer.

yes, kinna like the controls for a first person shooter, but without the collision detection, and restriction of course.

ill write up a little 'demo app' to show you what i mean
and post it here, if thats ok

k i heres the demo:
sorry about the 'big' download, i didnt want to spend time sizeing my textures down, lol

www.geocities.com/witte2008/acFlyDemo.zip

im sure you already know what i meant, but it was fun making this.
note: my .ac importer is for my personal use, therefor all models must be 'ungrouped' and 'triangulated'

Very nice but I couldn't find a way of quitting the demo. In the end, I had to do some keyboard work and kill it via the task manager.

I see a problem with this in AC3D. The moment you moved into the 3D window, the view would start whizzing around.

Yours takes over the mouse -we obviously can't do that in AC3D.Perhaps this sort of viewer is better as a seperate app - it would be great if you could add to this and others could then use it to wander around their AC3D models.

you press esc, to exit the program.
sorry about that.

and it was just a demo to show the kind of view controls, not acculy how it would be in ac3d.
i was thinking more like the mouse is free untill clicking in the 3dwindow,
which it would then 'disapear' and control the camera around, until you let off the mouse.

and the key controls would have to be diff. because 'a', 's', 'w', and 'd' are used for other things(probly make them the arrow keys)

of course you could still hold down Ctrl and Click in the 3dwindow to select things, but it would make it a hole lot easyer to view sertain models, like game maps and stuff.

about it being a seperate app, i would be happy to write a more complete viewer like the demo(or mabye a viewing plugin?once i learn how)
but that kind of defeats its perpose. of viewing your models as your working on them.

it would work as a seperate app., but it would be alot slower than i would like(of course modeling isnt a fast thing  )
i just wish the 'walk' mode in ac3d was a little more controlable

Hiding the mouse pointer is a no-no.

Once the next release is done, we can have a look at your ideas in more detail though.
