Default Why won't a .psd file work in AC3D?

I texture my models in Maya using the photoshop psd files. This makes it easy to see my adjustments on the fly when skinning. AC3D5 won't let me use a psd file. Is there a plugin I need?

Assuming you have Photoshop, you can export you image as a jpg, gif, or my personal favorite png. Even if you could use your PSD file, they are much larger in size because of all the information that Photoshop includes with the file (layers, filter settings, etc.) which is information you have no use for. I usually save two files - the original PSD for editing, and an export as PNG for textures. If you don't have Photoshop, try some of the freeware viewers / converters like Irfanview www.irfanview.com. Good Luck.

Yes, foxa is correct. If you don't have the option to 'save as' anything other than PSD, it may be because you have layers. In that case do the following.
Go to Layers menu> Flatten Image.
This should 'flatten' your image, it can now be saves as something other than PSD.

I know how to flatten and all that. When I use Maya, you can create a .psd file from Maya with the UV outline or "snapshot" as a layer. This way you can just start making your skin. After I make a change in the .psd, I just save it and then click "update psd" in maya. The change I made then appears on my model without having to flatten and save. Once I have my skin the way I want it, I flatten the psd and do a save as. I don't have to flatten and save every time I make a change.

It's a great time saver when trying to match up camo lines on my tanks. I can see the changes on the fly without having to reassign a texture everytime.

It's a great design feature and a HUGE timesaver to be able to do this.

Guess AC3D can't.
