Default Naming materials

I saw that there is a very old (2005) thread about being able to name materials. I really would like to see this feature implemented because having to deal with synthetic names in other apps (e.g. Vue) is not my idea of confortable workflow .

I read on that post that file format changes were required but if I save an .ac file with 6.2 I see lines like

MATERIAL "ac3dmat0" rgb 0 0 0 amb 0.2 0.2 0.2 emis 0 0 0 spec 0.2 0.2 0.2 shi 128 trans 0

which seems perfectly ok for custom names (MyGreatBlack instead of ac3dmat0)... am I missing something?

Bye!!!

If you go into File > Settings > Advanced and checkbox Enable Material Name Editing you can give your materials custom names in the materials editor.

Textbook blonde moment... by the way, the OBJ export does not honor edited names while 3DS does .
