Default AC3D 6.2 released

AC3D 6.2 is now available (Windows/Mac/Linux)

We’re pleased to announce that AC3D 6.2 is out now and available to download today.

Google Earth Support

This release sees the introduction of Google Earth support. Now you can export your AC3D models into Google Earth. Great for both practical and fun uses; whether you want to visualise how a building appears in its real environment, place an airplane over new terrains, or use it to unleash dinosaurs, the possibilities really are endless.

One great advantage of using AC3D for your Google Earth models is in the creation of smooth, organic and curvy objects; you’re not constrained by straight lines! For more information on how to use AC3D with Google Earth see http://www.inivis.com/googleearth.html.

3D mouse support

We’ve been working with 3Dconnexion to build integrated support for 3Dconnexion’s 3D mice (for Windows AC3D).

3Dconnexion’s 3D mice provide an extra level of control when navigating around your 3D objects/worlds. AC3D is compatible with the full range of 3Dconnexion’s products, whether home or professional use, the navigation around 3D worlds is superbly smooth and realistic. A great addition to your 3D toolset, and also works brilliantly with Google Earth!

3Dconnexion’s products start at only $59.95 and we highly recommend them. For more details on how AC3D works with SpaceNavigators, please see the Appendix in the latest manual.

Other news
This release also features improvements/fixes with texture loading, polygon reduction and 3DS support. For more details see the readme files that come with AC3D (visible in the AC3D Windows program installer).

Good! Fine! Excellent, Andy!
And now, how about importing Sketchup models (sorry about that)?

If you were one of the first people to download AC3D and tried exporting kml, you will have discovered that no dialog popped up after selecting File->Export->Google-Earth-KML.

This problem was swiftly fixed and new distributions were uploaded.

The solution is download AC3D again and reinstall it.

My sincere apologies for this problem.

Awesome! Can't wait to check it out.

By the way, with the Google support, does that mean there's support for Collada files now, too? (It's my understanding that a .kml is just a Collada file in a zip.)

If so, is there any chance to get Collada on the import\export menu if it's not already? Many of us in the game dev community would be totally into that.

Oh. Great! Would it be possible to get the Z coordinates from Google as well? So we can use the Grand Canyon in our games
[edit]
Just seen that you can export to Google only. Not import Google's images in AC3D. Doh!
