Default Questions from a 3d noob.

Hi, i'm new here, and thinking about buying AC3D. I have experience with 2D design, but I am entering the world of 3D. I am still rather young, so I don't have the kind of cash for lightwave 3D or anything, but AC3D has really appealed to me. I took the 14 day free trial, and really liked it, but I am confused about a few things. My questions proboably sound nobish of sorts, but I am still new to 3D.

1.) I have read the forums and I hear a lot about using other programs with ac3d. Are any other programs required?

2.) I also heard about updates. Do you have to pay for each new release? And if so, how much?

3.) I have been hearing about uv maps and parsing. Could someone explain those to me?

4.) How do you change the background color, in specific, make it transparent?

I will try to think up some other questions, but for now, those are all.

Well:

1. No there is no need to buy other programs, although a nice render can't help.

2. You do not have to pay for updates.

3. See UV map (for basic textures changes) and texture coordinate editor (for more advanced situations.)

4. I don't know how to get it transparent, and I'm not sure why you would need this?? but to change the background color go to in the 3d window: 3d/set background color.

Do you you mean make part of the model transparent? Go into the material editor thing and change the transparency.

Just curious, why a transparent background? If you're looking to trace over something, there's a nifty feature where you can place a template on the background. Choose the view you want, and then click Orth > Set Background Image to put a bitmap on the background that you can use as a guide.
