Default AC3D 8.6 Out Now!

AC3D 8.6 has a number of enhancements and fixes including:
  • the very useful Object-Thicken function which is now also available from the folding gadgets at the bottom left of the control panel.
  • Export-UV as a bitmap function (Tools menu).
  • Bas-Relief plugin - fixed (Tools menu) (Creates a landscape from an image)
See the installer/Readme for a full list of changes.

Available for Windows, Mac and Linux
Download now

Also now available X-Plane plugin for Linux

When started, AC3D will let you know if you need to upgrade your license. You can upgrade here.

Many thanks for your continued support - stay safe

Hi Andy
Any chance of seeing the "what's new" release notes before deciding, as I'd rather not overwrite my existing V8.55 just yet.

AC3D 8.6.11

added - Object-Thicken gadget added to control panel
fixed - object-library menu item was being over written by "save <filename>" after a save
fixed - increased compatibility with older Mac OSs
added - ExportUV as BMP plugin from Dennis (adds to Tools menu)
fixed - bug in View->background_image resource - entity_get_value tcl cmd would return 32 bit int rather than 64
added - optimization of polygon reduction code in Object->Reduce - faster on large models
fixed - assimp import - objects now have their rotation matrices fixed after loading
fixed - corrected edit type to text for DXF-circle-points and texture-update-time in File->Settings->Files (was boolean/checkbox)
added - Boolean ac_get_plugin_file_path(char *filename, char *output) searches plugin folders for file, outputs full path if exists
fixed - Shift-control key commands e.g. shift-control-a to unselect all, stopped working - Tcl/Tk key handling has now been made the same as Windows - code updated to fix
added - additional support for pointer types in Entity objects
fixed - Bas Relief plugin - crashed on some systems

Hi Andy,
Do not know if it is a AMD Radeon software problem or AC3D but with the latest version of AMD drivers 21.2.1 AC3D will not run, opens start-up DOS window then nothing. Reverted back to version 20.11.2 and all is okay.
Windows 10, Graphics card is a AMD Radeon R9 200 and AC3D version 8.6
Tom.

This has not been reported and many are using the latest AC3D. It think it's unlikely due to the AMD but it is of course possible.

There is a known problem with the preferences/settings file. If you ran 8.6 and then went back to 8.5, it won't start up properly. A solution is to delete the ac3dprefs8.txt file from you home folder. Could it be this?

If not, please could you try running it from the command line with "ac3d -debug"?

Hi Andy, AC3D working no problem with drivers 20.11.2, updated to latest drivers 21.2.1 and AC3D stops at dos window. Run -debug and came up with a lot of lines in dos window but still no AC3D. Is the debug information stored anywhere? Change back to drivers 20.11.2 and AC3D working fine. For now I will stay with the old driver untild the next one comes out and try that, Tom.

Thanks Tom, it looks like you have confirmed the problem.

To save the debug info run AC3D with "ac3d -debug > output.txt" and that will put the info into the output.txt file.

Get access denied when I use "> output.txt", "- debug" on it's own works

The file needs to be writable.

Quote:
ac3d -debug > c:\users\tom2\ac3d.txt

should do it.

I suspect you won't see a problem - it's probable that AC3D simply failed to open the OpenGL window because of the driver problem.
