how to spin thousands of polys
I'm repairing a car racing track and the trees are single plane polys.
I need to spin the polys 90 degrees (when viewed from the top). Any idea how to do this several thousand times? I know how to do it one by one, but how do you do several thousand? |

Re: how to spin thousands of polys
If you install the X-Plane plugin there's a function named 'Make Trees' which will do exactly what you want. It duplicates every selected polygon and rotates it 90°.
It works on multiple selected polygons (individually of course). The plugin is free. cheers Peter

Re: how to spin thousands of polys
Thanks for the reply captainpeter.
When I select several polys (topview) and then click X-Plane / Make Trees .............. nothing seems to happen. According to the readme I need some X-plane files to make this plugin work. The plugin also requires two text files: DataRefs.txt and Commands.txt - these are computer-readable lists of X-Plane's current datarefs and commands. You can get them both from the Resources/plugins folder of X-Plane 930 and newer. Since I don't have this game I don't think this plugin will work. |

Re: how to spin thousands of polys
You can get them from the X-Plane Demo or from the link I sent in a private message.
cheers peter

Here's a quick demo screenshot of the 'Make Trees' command - before & after:

Re: how to spin thousands of polys
Thanks Peter ............... I finally figured it out.
1) each tree must be a separate object 2) each tree must be a four sided quad (not two triangles) 3) and you must be in the object selection mode (not surface selection mode) for the plugin to work The problems I now have are that the original file has all the trees as one single object, and each tree is comprised of two triangles rather than a quad. hmmmmm ...................... This still requires much work ......................... |

Re: how to spin thousands of polys
Hmmm,
I have 3d software that will combine those tri's into quad's. Then you could use AC3D's fragment command to make sep. objects. If you want send me the layer with those 1000 trees and I'll make them quad's. Or you can try yourself with Blender 3D. You can use DAE format to move the file between the two apps (or look for the .ac plugin for blender which may help) cheers peter Quote:

Re: how to spin thousands of polys
Thanks again Peter ................ I'll give that a try with Blender to make the quads.
