Question plane doesn't get textured in external app - uvs missing?

Hello,

I let AC3D create a plane 100 intersections by 100 intersections and exported it as .3ds.

Then I imported that plane into Unity3D.

There, no shader with texture support is able to place a texture on it.

Someone on the Unity3d Forums suggested that uv-coordinates are missing.

How can I make sure uvs are properly present on a plane in AC3D? Or is there any known issue with planes?

Thanks!

uani

Hi uani,

I have not tested a plane specifically, but that said, I have always had best luck going collada .dae to unity.

Regards,
Dave

I played with some of the "Tools", now I always get a 2 mesh plane, checkerboard-like, when letting create a new plane.

Transferring via .3ds results in 2 meshes one for each checker color,
transferring via .dae results in 1 mesh with 2 materials, one for each checkerboard color.

How can I resolve this: I like to have 1 uniform plane consisting of 1 mesh with 1 material and uvs?

Thank you for your help.

Hi uani,

Attached here is a screenshot consisting of a grid and a plane, in unity, using one material textured, both created in ac3d.

To make this, I created an ac3d mesh object.
Then I baked the default checker materials to a texture using the ac3d plugin called "Render To Texture"
I applied this texture to the grid, as well as all white material.
I made a second plane, the same size as the grid, and applied the same texture and white material.
Export to Collada .dae.
Import to unity. At this point, all I had to do was reassign the texture to the material. (There is probably something simple to carry in the textures, as I know I have had it work before)

I hope this helps
Regards,
Dave
