Doesn't look right
I'm just doing a basic wine glass type thing, from reading the manual. Then trying to add a glass material to it.
Here's what I ended up with I don't know why its showing up so small, I had to scale it down to 640x480, so it should be bigger than that. Maybe its just because it doesn't have a background, is there a way to render a background behind it? |

Re: Doesn't look right
what do you use to render? I'm still new, so I don't have a bias towards any particular program yet.
I'm basically shopping around to find what I want to use. I love your textured scenes of the ships flying |

Re: Doesn't look right
I use Bryce5.5 or Carrara. Those threads have links to the free version of Bryce and a very nice render engine called Kerkhytea

Re: Doesn't look right
which would you say is a better renderer, and why?
so how would it be possible to render the wine glass on say a jpeg, and have it be part of the background, say sitting on a desk or something? I know when you render with pov-ray, it gives it a background color, so I tried to use gimp, but not sure how I can get rid of the background color and have it use the background on the picture. I figured it would be something the renderer would have to do. which calls in another problem, positioning the glass in a certain spot on the picture. sorry for all my newb questions, wish i could find a book on this type of thing. |

Here is a screengrab from Bryce 5.5. Depending on how much mony you will use, I would say take Bryce or Kerkythea. Carrara render, and are a better prog than Bryce, but it costs mony. Bryce and Kerky are free

Re: Doesn't look right
that is neat. is that just a background picture or textures?
why don't you use them for the modeling aspect as well? |

Re: Doesn't look right
That background is just one of many preset skyes in Bryce. You have many to choose from. For the models you sometimes want a plain background like grey to focus on the model and dont get unwanted reflections
