Cannot open a BMP file as a background image

Hi:
All of a sudden, while working in placement of objects over a background BMP image created as a reference for placing such objects, I could not see the image anymore. The objects remain on the list (F8) and could be exported, but I was not able to place any new object, as the BMP is not visible anymore.
I even uninstalled AC3D and re-installed, but the issue persists. I can load the BMP as an object texture, but the image remains in white and the image itself is not visible.
Any ideas on what could be happening?.
