Background Images
I have an image (including border, etc) of a vehicle which is 407 x 149 pixels. In real life the vehicle is 9.87 * 2.72m.
Basically how can I scale this in AC3D to reflect the real sizes? Thanks for your help, Titch |

Re: Background Images
I'm not sure if there is any way to scale background images in AC3D. What I would do is use an application like Adobe PhotoShop or Dell Image Picture Studio. Just convert the size of the car (from meters to centimeters) and enter it into the resize windows. Make sure that the option to constrain proportions is selected. Then change the centimeters over to pixels and enter the width (or height) of how big you want it. I did it with the figures you gave and I am pretty sure that 9.87m x 2.27m scaled down is 407pixils x 112pixils. You may want to check that, but I think it's right.
If you ever have to do this again, but you don't already have a program that can scale pictures, goto this web site: http://javascript.internet.com/equiv...e-resizer.html I hoped I helped you at least a little! -Laurifer |

Re: Background Images
I think the default AC3D scale is 100 pixels to one unit. If you scale the imgge in a paint program you make end up with a very large picture which will slow things down.
Best to use alt+control+up/down to scale the background images from within AC3D until it fits your grid. (alt+cursorkeys moves the background image). Andy |

Re: Background Images
I found the best way is to make all images gif's, smaller and easyier to handle. Then make a box the size of a known object and re-size the background to suit the box.

Re: Background Images
I haven't seen any kind of "units" measurement in the entire interface (admittedly, I'm a novice, so I could've missed it).
But, even if I wanted to make a "sizing box", I wouldn't know how to do it.

Re: Background Images
But relative to what? Don't you need to have some kind of "units", like mm, inches, feet or whatever?

Re: Background Images
AC3D's units are anything you like. Some people use them as metres, some as cm, some as inches. The grid can be configured for any sizes e.g. inches and 1/8ths of an inch.
Most people probably use AC3D's unit as metres - since this is what VRML uses. Andy |

Re: Background Images
stig, the units in the upper left corner of AC3D in relation to Targetware is 1 unit = 1 meter.
just so you know.
