Default Is my Apple Mac Mini dead?

This is a new Intel Mac Mini with Wireless Apple keyboard.

It worked fine for a few weeks.

Now, when I switch it on, the white LED on the front lights, power goes to USB mouse LED, but there no monitor output and no startup sound.

I've tried this with a USB Mac keyboard too - this doesn't work either (caps lock doesn't toggle on/off).

The only interaction I can do with it is to hold down the power button for a few seconds to switch it off.

Any Mac users know what could be wrong?

I'm hoping it's a user error

Hi Andy

I don't have a mac, but had a similar problem:
Computer was running, but system wasn't booting and no vga signal.
After removing my graphic-card, cleaning it and putting it again in the agp-slot
my computer works fine again.(until now )

I dont know if this could help you,
because i am quite sure (?) the mac mini has an onboard graphic-card.

I wish you the best of luck

bye

Thanks for your messages.

I tried it again today and it started up with no problems - very strange.

Perhaps it was something that I remember happening with a Mac Classic I had many years ago - 'sticktion' - where the hard disk had trouble starting up. I used to have to -hit- the old Mac to get it going. I wouldn't attempt this with this new one though

If it happens again, it'll have to go back...

It happened again - no startup.

I've followed most of this http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300583 hopefully that will fix it.

Hi

My Mac Mini PPC would freeze after a couple of minutes use. Turned out to be faulty RAM chip. Might be worth returning it to Apple.

Have you tried the Hardware test disk?

Thanks Dave, I didn't try that - I'm not sure it would have started up enough to even read the CD. After being OK for a while, it failed to start up again.

I phoned Apple's technical support and we went through a few tests. They confirmed that there was probably a hardware fault.

So - it's going back very soon...

Excellent support from Apple.
