Default Optimize - when, why?

With options to Optimize Surfaces or Vertices, or both - is this "a good thing" to do on each part or on an entire model? Does one do it just sometimes, or always?

I'm guessing the above makes a model or parts more efficient, delivering a lower polygon count?

Thanks, for ideas from more experienced users, than myself.

I always optimise both vertices and surfaces, as part of a clean up of any rubbish. Before I do this though I select all vertices and snap together with a very small number to make sure I lock all the parts together that need to be.

Mossie,

Thank you for fast reply, and help; but you lost me with "select all and snap..." part of that. In my case, I was assembling models (from another app), in AC3D and then exporting from there to Ogre mesh format - or was, in a recent game I had worked on.

Thanks, again/Best, from SignGuy169 (Pat)

Use, in vertices - "snap together by distance" and select a very small number, I use 0.0005 or less, depending on what I'm building.

Then optimise vertices and then surfaces.
