Well, I would love to be a production artist, but as it is it's just another one of my side passions. Between that, golf, music, acting, and cooking there's a lot I'd love to do, but I can only do so many things. I've wanted to be an aerospace engineer since I was about five (Oddly enough, at that age I decided I wanted to go to Penn State for aerospace engineering and what am I doing now? Going to Penn State for aerospace engineering) I don't think that that's where my career path lies, but what will come is a mystery. I just do this because I enjoy it and I figure it can't hurt to get a jump start on design so I'll have a better grip on things in college and a more vivid imagination when it comes to design.

Ah, gotcha. I misunderstood "never" to mean "can't" versus "occupied with other interests". I hear you on that one! I have a laundry list of things I want to do someday, but I guess I don't think of them so much as things I won't do, but things I will do "when I'm done doing what I'm doing right now"... provided I don't die of old age before I get to all of them.

Truthfully, I think there's a lot of overlap between engineering and other forms of production art. Ironically, many of the people I work with were formerly in aerospace--even the company that published our last game is a Boeing spin-off. (They're re-purposing military flight simulation technology into consumer products.) It's different industries, but the same math and the same tools, which is why I think there's so much crossover. Of course, the fact that Boeing and Lockheed-Martin are in town could also influence that a bit.

I think that's *awesome* though that you're pursuing exactly what you've always wanted to do. Far too few people pursue their dreams!

Yeah, considering my budget and the tools I had to work with, I think it turned out fairly well. I'm especially fond of the bloom effect around the Terran Empire Fighters.

I use PoseRay and POVRay, but lately they've been acting up. I've tried learning Blender but I can't make heads or tails of it. I'd try Bryce, but I don't have any money.
