Default WIP, a WWI aircraft.

OK, this is a model for relief. Something to progress on when I'm tearing my hair out over the models I should be doing. LOL
Which aircraft it is should soon become evidant. So far its only a fuselage frame.

Thought I'd better put some wing on it before I slept.
Look a little like an aircraft that way

I promise, it'll get better.
Not sure whether I'll model all the small detail or leave brackets etc to 2D, yet.
I'm thinking about the circular cut-out in the cowling atm and whether a quick image or a detailed engine should be there. Guess that'll set the tone for the whole deal.

Started playing with the motor. Thinking of doing the cylinder fins with an alpha texture.

Still I might not use the 3D motor, I'll see. Its weird with no parameters. Starting to think a goal for use isnt a bad thing.
Like linus, I want my security back.

Nice start, so far...

Yep, for anyone with a WWI tuned eye, those interwing struts are a give-away.
Thanks for the encouragement.
There's a natural instinct to show one's finished masterpieces and to keep our fumblings private. I was thinking about that and decided to do this here as a WIP in the hope that I and others might learn a tip or two.
So I'm showing it flaws n all and welcome discussion.
I'm already unhappy with the frame bracing. I sketched it in without paying att to detail measurements of the upright and crossmembers and think they'll want some adjustment. Look a bit crude atm.
A lot of that comes from not thinking through before starting what I wanted to result in. For the moment though, I'm happy to watch and see what it grows into.
First mistake is to start modelling before all research is in hand. Some plans n books due next week, so there'll probably be some changes then.
For now It'll continue low poly.

Tip #1. When taking a pic of your model in 3D view, take the time to toggle
AA on. Results in a much better grab.

Will that plane be used somewhere?
In a game maybe?

I built a low-poly tripe for the use in Richthofens-Skies (see sig)
She is waiting for the cockpit to be painted atm.

Early WIP shot (looks much better now, but don't have better shots laying around on my webspace)

Its not promised anywhere. Thats why its a bit aimless atm.
If it was for RS, it wouldnt want any of the internal stuff, except the pit.
Who's painting your pit? If theres any good pit refs in the books expected I'll PM you at TW.
I'm doing a little for TW. CAC-13 for TR and at the mapping stage for a tank BH is going to paint.
Thanks for shairing the pics of your Tripe. TW seems to need the poly budget spent differently with WWI planes, than WWII. Seems to be a few points for each aircraft that catch the eye and need a higher poly 'spend'. Getting to see other modeller's WIP helps to develop that eye.
Although TW's becoming a moving target as each new aircraft released seems to be more detailed than the last. Mossie's Storche pit is 9000 polys.
I'm still developing my work flow method. Currently, doing several models in AC3D and another version of each in 3DS Max. Each inspires the other.

Poly budged, when I built her was 3000 for external.
This model should be around 2700, if I remember correct.
Yes, pit is waiting for BH, but he has not that much time atm.

Actualy the Pup-pit is waiting for him. The Tripe has the same cockpit like the Pup, except some small modifications.
As soon as I get BHs ok, mapping wise, the Tripe pit will be completed.

We decided to raise polycount. TT showed us, what is possible, so RS should not be behind

[edit]
Lets see, what I can find...

Used cockpit waiting for BH

The pits are almost interchangable. The big trim wheel, lower right, in the Tripe pit is the only thing really missing. Oh, and the strut its mounted on, of course.

That pic gives a great look at the pit's make up, but talk about over done!
This is more like it.

Though the twin gun set was rare, it was used and this pic has the feel of state of the art for the time, while still looking like a 'military tool'. I wonder if there'd be howls of upset if you double the Tripe's guns for RS?
I like the look of the internal wood frame-work in your Pup pit. It looks scaled right and that doesnt always happen, even when it's all to measure.

Your Pup seems to have the motor modelled. How does RS deal with rotary motors, the same as the props?
