My advice?

Just do a search on google or somewhere similar for "character modeling".

There are tons of step-by-step tutorials for 3D Max and other modeling programs.

The AC3D commands may vary a little, but the concepts are exactly the same. It's basically box modeling... and, if this is for a fantasy/roleplaying game, you might need some "bones" structure to animate your figure, which AC3D doesn't have.
