Default Best Way to Edit Paint Scheme on Existing X-Plane Aircraft

I would like to take an existing X-Plane aircraft and edit its paint scheme to change its color, change the tail number, and apply an image as a decal.

I initially thought Blender could do this, but apparently it can only export to X-plane but cannot import an .obj TO X-plane even with the add-on.

I tried AC3D and was able to import an .obj file and make some change to the aircraft appearance, but for some reason even with the Xplane plugin when I try to save the .obj file it creates a folder but no file.

What software is best for editing an existing X-plane aircraft's appearance?

If you have an already textured plane, the easiest way to edit the "paint scheme" is to use Photoshop or similar and edit the texture file that comes with the .obj file.

Load your model into AC3D and have a look at the Tools->Texture-coordinate-editor to see the mapping of the texture.

Thanks

I can load the Texture-coordinate-editor but I do not see how to see the mapping

Is there a link somewhere to an article or documentation that explains this to a newbie? Seems like this is headed on the right track for what I am looking for.

Load the Aston Martin car from the model samples folder and experiment with that.

See the Tools section in the manual for info on how to use the TCE.
