Default newbie question

i am new to the AC3D as u can proboly tell and i just hav this one newbie question and i couldnt find it in the online manual anywhere.
-how do u select multiple vertices by clicking on them one at a time?
i know how to drag and select multiple things in one click, i just cant get multiple vertices with multiple clicks.
if u dont know what im talking about just watch in this video. at 15 seconds into the video, you will see the guy select all 4 corners of his square. thats what i want to know how to do.
