Default Combining surfaces?

In IntelliCAD (AutoCAD clone), I drew lines and arcs. I exported the drawing to a DXF file. I imported the drawing into AC3D. I created separate surfaces. I merged the surfaces into one object. I fixed any problems with vertexes. I combined the separate surfaces into single surfaces. I had to create two single surfaces because if I try to combine all of the surfaces into one surface, the door opening would be filled in and some surfaces would be missing from the front fender. The front fender is separate from the rest of the car body. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you're on the right track here.

Are you wanting everything in a single surface? If so, is there a particular reason you need everything in a single surface? With the hole for the door, I'm not sure if a single surface is possible here...

Also, unless there's a compelling reason to make it one surface, I personally tend to divide my models up into quads (4-sided surfaces). This makes things easier if I end up subdividing, allows loop selections/editing, etc.

It all depends on what you intend to do with the model in the end...

I had the same question about a zillion years ago - Dennis is absolutely correct about using quads. and remember - the only way all the surfaces can be combined is if the resulting surface is flat, which in most cases is not very realistic.

Have fun
