Not sure what it is, but it looks like you've just got some vertices in the wrong place.

Press 'd' to switch off display of subdivisions. Then move the vertices so they are lined up like the vertices on the right side of the picture.

Perhaps I've got the answer, after many experiments; it seems that when the mesh gets bended over a certain amount of degrees, the vertices of the thinner side (in this case, of the SL-ready cube) come out "feathering" this way. And there is no method to hide this (in the case one would try to get rid of that by moving the vertices, the side's profile gets somewhat jagged). Resizing the opposite handles of the whole mesh could help, but at costs of details. This is very unfortunate.
