Default Hints on Lighting

:?: I have finished a couple of circuit board models and rendered them in POV Ray, my problem is with the lighting. I end up with one (or more) of the following.
  • Too dark

    Washed out

    Shadows all over the place

I would really like to have an even light so that all of the components can be seen, or can I turn off the shadows in POV Ray. I would also like to produce models with white fill and black lines for line art for training manuals, is that possible and how complicated would it be.

Thanks for a wonderful program and to Woody for the help so far.

You can also try looking at my "Eureka" post in the resources section. It's best to put an object in your scene where you want a light source and name it something easy so you can find it then copy the location after you render.
There are several different kinds of light sources available in Pov-Ray. You most likely would want an area light. Once you do include it, it will add to the render time quite a bit.

Hey Woody - that worked great, I found another option in the POV Ray book I got. Put an area light by the camera, that way even if you get shadows they are behind the objects in your scene.

Thanks again

You're welcome. I didn't even know that Pov-Ray had an instruction book out. Looks like I'll have to make a run to Bongo's books.
