Default Begginer in need of help

I have tried making an object before and failed miserably. I need help on how to make an object.
I am trying to make Midway Island for a game and would settle for a flat island. I just dont know how to go about doing it.
Make a square as big as what Im going to make, and make everything transparent that wont show up? How would I go about doing this?

You could start by getting a nicely detailed elevation map and using that as a starting point. Using the Poly tool, you could describe the coasts of the various islands. Then the challenge would be how to extrude the elevations.

I dunno if AC3D can make use of actual geographic data; if it can, that'd make your job much easier. You could get the data from GTOPO, probably free.

Also, if this is for a game, does your game have a tool kit that allows you to create terrains? That might be a better approach than a 3D program.

There is a terrain editor for this game but I need to make my own objects in order to get certain detail in it. Then objects can be imported from AC3D. I tried making Ford Island and had no idea how to use AC3D so I just took objects already in the game and changed their texture and made parts transparent so I would get the look I wanted. only problem is when I made them transparent thats all it did and parts of the object were still there and could be ran into while in the game. I would like to get around this so I can make more detailed islands and objects.

This is the project I am working on now

I am just trying to make a flat object that will look like the island. How should I go about doing this?

Still not sure what you're expecting to get from the "finished object" for Aces High....

But, if you just want a flat object with the proper coastline... see my first response for an idea of how to do that. But I'd also check that terrain tutorial to see if there isn't a way to get both the outline and the elevations in your "object".

If I included elevations would it make alot of surfaces on the object? if so that will kill framerates.

I suppose so. Any object with tons of polys will do that.

That's why I'm wondering why you don't use an Aces High terrain generator to form your island. A tiny island surrounded by water should be easy for the AH engine to create and render, and your only problem then would be making custom terrain tiles for it. And that's a 2D art problem, not a 3D problem.

I imagine that "objects" in Aces High would mean planes, vehicles, guns, ships, buildings and structures like bridges, dams and such. I wouldn't think the "object" class pertains to anything as large as an island or land mass.
