Default PLUGIN: Box Conform

A new plugin is available for AC3D that allows you to conform a selected set of geometry to the bounds of a specified box.

Good for making cartoonish geometry relatively quickly. Probably has other uses I haven't considered, but this was its original purpose.

Thanks Dennis !
This is a very cool plugin. I can see a use for me for aligning vertices along a diagonal ...

Just FYI I've made a stupid test and here's the result (the box conform object is at right) :

On the above picture, you end up with something somewhere that you can't even unselect by clicking on the workspace ...

After some "undo" to restore the initial state of the block object, I've rotated it on 45 degres on the Y axis,
selected all the block object and performed the box conform process (to see how it deals with faces non facing any axis), worked very well.

Then after some "undo" again to restore the initial state of the block object, I've re-selected the right vertices as in the first picture, and re-performed the plugin :

As stated, this is just FYI, because yes ... this is a stupid way of using your plugin

Ah, goot catch luuckyy. Seems when the geometry to be transformed has a scale of zero along an axis, the plugin goes nuts.

As you said, not the best way to use the plugin, but an excellent catch, and something that must be addressed.

For now, I'll throw in a catch to ensure the input geometry has depth before proceeding.

Thanks,
Dennis

Exclamation Re: PLUGIN: Box Conform

All,

I've posted an update to address the problem that luuckyy describes above. It doesn't so much fix the problem as it prevents you from performing an operation on such geometry.

Thanks again to luuckyy

Excellent. Very nice idea for a plugin.

Looks potentially quite handy - hope we can get it built on Linux sometime...

Cheers,

Hello Dennis,

all your plugins are really interesting stuff.
A question for windows: Which compiler do you use for your plugins?
For someone who want to learn such things it would be nice to be able to start with recompiling existing and working solutions.
