Default question about hierarchical capabilities of ac3d

just wondering if ac3d allows you to create objects that have sub objects (ie. kids) such that the kids are transformed relative to the parent?

the ac3d file format seems to support this (with the "kids" line associated with each object), but i can't see any way to do it in the program itself. the hierarchical organiser window allows me to group objects together, but i want to create a humanoid model hierarchically such that each limb is transformed relative to its parent, for example (dash, -, indicates level in hierarchy):

torso
-left shoulder
--left upper arm
---left elbow
----left wrist
-----left hand
-right shoulder
--right upper arm
---right elbow
----right wrist
-----right hand
-head
-left hip
--left upper leg
---left knee
----left lower leg
-----left ankle
------left foot
-right hip

etc. etc.

since the hierarchy chain from shoulder to hand is unary (ie. only one child per object), i cannot use the "group" feature of the hierarchy editor. i could edit the .ac file manually to achieve what i want but a) would ac3d be able to load it? and b) that defeats the purpose of using a modeller.

apologies for the long post, but could somebody please let me know how to do this? my model *must* be hierarchical for my assignment at uni.

thanks,
-Luke

Although an AC3D file formatted like you say will load, AC3D works like a 2D graphics program where groups of objects have two or more children. i.e. it's not possible to create (from within AC3D) a group with only one child.

What if you created a group with your real object and a dummy and then deleted the dummy?
