Exporting files to Blender and back again
:?:
>Hi :? I've already asked Andy this question, and he suggested I post it on the general discussion forum. I would like some help in exporting Ac3d files to Blender3D (and > the reverse) in order to use the lattice-manipulation and > Bezier-curve features it has. I have both licenced programs and > both manuals and still cannot seem to get it right. I much prefer > the AC3D interface but the subdivision morphing is not smooth or > practical enough for the squash and stretch modelling my work > requires. Sometimes I can\'t even find the files in the target > program after I send it. I have been told it is possible and > commonly done. I am relatively new to computers and ask that anyone kind enough to answer please give me specific instrucions (as in "save model as VRML1, not 2, or POVRAY, and open in Blender under File>C:>models) I would appreciate your instruction. Thanks. James |

The 2.32 Blender build comes with AC3D export/import functionality built in - I've used it and it works perfectly for most objects. It doesn't give good results on convex polys with 5 or more sides, so if you have any of those you may want to triangulate your model (or at least those polys) first.
If you're using an older Blender build, I'd definitely recommend moving up to the 2.3 family. Otherwise, you could also find and download the 3DS importer/exporter for Blender and use that (exporting/importing 3DS from AC3D). Plus, you may be able to find the AC3D import/export utility for previous versions. |
