Default Sometimes surfaces "go black"

Any idea why? Or how I can fix it?

The surface is still the assigned color, but it "reflects" to black for about half the rotation.

It happens after I change polygon shapes, I think by moving vertexes directly...

btw, I've already figured out a lot of things from reading old posts in these forums, so I gotta thank youse all for having this here. Thanks...

This may happen when:

1. You have a surface sich has to many vertices wich are not connected
Code:
+---+---+---+---+
| |
+---+---+---+---+
Solution: slice surface at those additional vertices, or remove them if possible

Code:
+---+---+---+---+
| | | | |
+---+---+---+---+

2. Vertice order is not right. Select surface and press ctrl+shift+o
(Or go to vertice menu and select "change vertice order")
Maybe you have to do this more than once.

If that doesn't work try Surface - Flip Normal, you may have inadvertently filpped the surface and you are looking at the back.

Default thanks!

D:

It seems to be a combination of your two suggestions. One object fixed itself right up by changing the vertice order. The other shape... well, I can see that slicing the surface is the answer for that one, so thanks again; now I just need to figure out how to slice it up without changing its shape.

So I'm on my way! Really appreciate it.
