Help me i don't know what i'm doing wrong
Hi all. I'm really new to AC3D and 3d desging and i'm eager to learn all there is to leurn. But i've got a problem. I'm on Second Life and i made my own surfboard in AC3D. Now when i bring it in SL and scuplture a prim (1 block) it comes out kinda funny. I've made 2 screen prints one of the 3d design and one of how it looks in SL. I really hope that someone can help me. Thanks.
The AC3D prt sc. And this is how it comes out in Second Life |

What does your UV layout look like? The sculpted prim exporter uses the texture coordinates to calculate the sculpt map, so it needs a "perfect" uv map that runs edge-to-edge and wraps. It looks like there might be a gap in map?

No problem! You'll find it on the "Tools" menu under "Texture Coordinate Editor".
If you are new to this, you might find this tutorial helpful: http://independentdeveloper.com/arch...rom_existing_3 (Uh, if it doesn't load, try again later tonight, or let me know and I'll copy and paste it here. I'm moving my site from pivot to wordpress because pivot keeps doing weird things, but I'm not quite done converting it yet as I am very new to wordpress ) |

Hi lisa,
i believer there defently is a gap in it. but how do i make this a perfect UV map? Thanks for all your help so far. And if you got any pointers for me in SL or you just want to talk or if there is a seminar that's open for visitors you can add me as a friend under the name Timothy22 Larsson. |

Re: Help me i don't know what i'm doing wrong
Anytime!
Basically, what you want to do is wrap the shape so that there are no holes, and so that the left edge of the texture map seams up with the right edge, and the top edge seams with the bottom edge. If you start with one of the premade shapes that comes with the sculpty plugin, it's already done for you. If you start with your own shape, you'll need to use the texture coordinate editor to map it. There's also a UV Map plugin you'll find on the tools menu, or you can download it from supercoldmilk.com if you don't have it already. For something like your surfboard, I would probably try cylindrical wrapping it around the X axis. Apply the wrap, and then open the texture coordinate editor use the Snap > Max button to make the map fill the entire space. Then grab and stretch any overlapping points or points that don't go all the way to the edge until you don't have any gaps. |

Re: Help me i don't know what i'm doing wrong
I have the same... no idea to solve this.
I do use the normal shapes, no funny tricks. Even when I directly safe a sphere and upload it in SL I get the same weird outer lines attached at the prim It looks like we can not use the sphere shape for second life .......... Last edited by JunkyJewell; 27th December 2007 at 04:14 AM. |

Re: Help me i don't know what i'm doing wrong
You can... but you need to fix the texture map first to get rid of the gaps. The key to the sculpty tool is that your texture cooridinates must have *no* gaps in them.
The default sphere has triangles at the poles instead of quads; you need to re-map the poles to fix this if you want to use the default sphere. The pre-mapped sphere that comes with the plug-in already has this corrected. You can access the Texture Coordinate editor by clicking Tools > Texture Coordinate Editor. I've attached a picture with correctly and incorrectly mapped spheres that will hopefully make things more clear. |
