Edge Extrudsion!

andy,
would it be possible, if a future update, could be able to extrude a single edge of a surface, rather than just the whole surface.

when modeling a head/face you start with a single rect, then extrude one edge, and 'rap' it around, problem is, this cant be done

theres other ways, but there frustrainting :?
