Default how about this program for unwrapping?

http://www.unwrap3d.com/u3d/index.aspx

is this better than ac3ds unwrapping abilities? it supports ac3d file format.

the reason why i ask is because the ac3d fuselage unwrap method is not working very well for me. im using 7.5.02.

Are using AC3D's texture LSCM Unwrap? It's very powerful but you need to select non-joined areas for it to work well. If you select the whole cylinder, the algorithm doesn't know where you want the edges of the mapping. So, on a cylinder/fuselage, select then map one half at a time.

AC3D 8 has more useful texturing extras in the Tools menu on the Texture Coordinate Editor.

thats what i was doing, right and left half fuselage separately. it has a bug where it splits the half into two pieces and then you have to put it together, thats not too hard for me on a simple test cylinder but with a fuselage that has a nose it doesnt seem to work. this is what i get using a test cylinder and then this fuselage:

what im seeing there on AC3D 8 there is the same thing that was on AC3D 7's tools > UV map. or has something been added?

Yes - those tools are much the same but in a more handy place. With all these tools, AC3D is a powerful texturing program on its own.

If you are mapping a ready created texture, as it looks like, you may be better with a planar mapping for the left and right sides of the fuselage. Then position the maps over the existing fuselage side images you have.

If you want to create a mapping where you later create a texture image from, you can use the LCSM function (on the main TCE control panel). You'll need to do some stretching and rotating of the result but the LCSM algorithm will layout the texture surfaces to represent the surface area better.

Please excuse my 20 second fuselage model used in this example.

im trying to unwrap the fuselage and then texture it after.

the best way as far as i understand is to use the cylindrical setting, but this is what i get:

You have only selected half of the fuse and that is being mapped to a full cylinder. That's why you can see the big hole in the mapping. If you want to use cylinder mapping, you'll want to select the whole cylinder first.

On that texture you are using, have you tried a simple planar map? - e.g. on your last example, press "Front" on the UV extras and then Apply. Then move/size the map over the fuselage part of your texure.
