Default Max number of faces in an object exported as 3ds?

I'm having a difficult time with this Hel model I'm reworking. Do anyone know what the maximum number of faces one object in a 3ds file can have? I thought it was around 20000 something, but now I start to wonder if that is to much. This thing takes forever to export as 3ds (3+ hours) and gets around 26mb big, but many of the objects arent exported when imported into, say Carrara. Whenever that have happend to me before I have just split the largest objects and it has all been good, but not so with this. Anyone have any ideas? What about the 3ds exporter in AC3D? How much does it export?

I just got the answear on this and it wasent what I liked to hear. A 3ds file can only take around 65.000 faces, and my model has 455.000. That is a bit over the limit so I need to rethink this one. Sure I could just export it as an obj, but it gets over 110mb, and that is way to big to put up on my site.

Now I'm a bit confused. I checked one of my other models, and that has over 100.000 faces and that exported and imported just fine. I have to check in to this thing a bit more

I'm not aware of any kind of limitation for a 3ds file ...
it's amazing how much polys all these greebles objects are made of, I wouldn't have tell just by looking at the model.
And the exporter just takes its time to triangulate all theses surfaces ...
Hope you soon will find a solution

OK, I must have been to tired. I totaly missed the way to big objects in the Hel model. I thought it was 10.000 and 12.000 faces, but it was actually 100.000 and 120.000 faces. The limit of 64.000 faces per object was broken. Each object in a 3ds file can only have up to 64.000 surfaces, but you can have multiple objects in one file. I dont know yet how many objects one 3ds file can take, but my stargate model has 1000 objects for the time being

The picture shows the damn part of the model making it not export. Works fine now.
