Since Andy asked us to show what we have been working on, I attached an example of a Printed Circuit Board model with the "PC artwork" acomplished using texture mapping.

Likewise, here is a circuit board that I have worked on. Your idea of using "using texture mapping" to show circuit board traces is great! Thanks.
I previously asked if anyone, was doing similar work and wanted to share electronic component libraries. Maybe there is more interest now, see: http://www.ac3d.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3132 (This circuit display was created using only AC3D.) you should make textures on the main board so that all the connectors look like there connecting to some thing

I have drawn my parts to a 1:1 scale. In File-->settings, you can set the major divisions to represent "0.1" and the minor divisions to be "0.01" which makes it easier to draw small parts to scale.
I haven't worried about showing resistor color bands since I am trying to achieve an overall "form, fit", kind of model rather than duplicating what the board would look like in a picture. I'm not sure how we could go about sharing part models through the forum or otherwise, but I'm not opposed to doing so if someone knows how to do this. |

For a library of parts, create a folder structure containing your parts and access it using File->Object-Library. I'm interested to know - what do these circuits do? |

As a matter of fact, I have placed the part models in an Object-->Library.
The circuit board, that I illustrated, processes position-angle signals and sends out an alarm signal to a piezo device when an invalid set of position angles is detected. It is part of a "Sleep Position Monitor" that I designed for myself. Due to a back injury, I have to limit the positions that I can sleep in to two positions. If I get into a bad position, the monitor will sound an alarm and wake me. The bottom side of the board wasn't shown in the image that I sent. The texture mapping for it shows the other traces that connect to the components. The texture mapping that you can see in the image that I sent is just the top-side artwork. |
