ok.. i think i give up. will have to use this ugly blender thing and work my way through many tutorials.
Allthough AC3D is by far easier to use i do not get my models into SL correct. Even the included SL-cube i use as base for my work wont import correctly. Simply dont get the concept of the whole thing.
Building is heaven, importing is hell.

I refer to the often quoted turorial about texturing where it reads:

You can texture your model using the texture tools built into AC3D. Just be sure to follow the rules and use all of the uv space and make sure it wraps in all directions. However, since this is a little tricky to do unless you are a seasoned texture artist, an easier way is to start with one of the pre-mapped primitive shapes that are included with the plug-in.

Three starter shapes are included:
- Sculpty Sphere
- Sculpty Cylinder
- Sculpty Cube

All three shapes are mapped correctly and have subdivisions set. The cube is gridded-out, so it's a perfect starter shape for using the box modelling technique.

I´d LOVE to do that. But when even the included basic sculpt wont work correctly, what can i do?

this is what the unchanged standard cube looks like in SL:

the cube looks fine, just tested it. I have no idea what could be wrong, sorry.

About the beta-grid, yes, with the standard SL viewer, hit control + shift + g and a popup menu appears at the bottom right, choose 'aditi' en hit 'connect'.

You must be jinxed....

Weird, your cube picture looks like the map is rotated 90.

Could be--the picture you posted certainly *looks* rotated--but I can't imagine why on earth it would be if you are using the default shapes??? Those should work right out of the box.

One step forward. One step back.
I downloaded AC3D again and used the include premade shapes. Well, success: the cube works now. It seems that the version i got from that more then once in this forum referred to blog is not ok.

Happy with this i tried a fast one (see in picture) and imported it into SL. And again: all broken.
But! As you might see on the picture, my uv-map seems not to be closed. Is that so? Are these gray areas what everyone refers to when speaking of "holes in the uv-map"?
And if it is so: how to close them? Just by choosing vertex-view and moving as many vertecies whereever i like to cover the gray parts?

Still in need of help.
