Default cutting from the inside part of an object?

Hi All,

Have worked out how to cut bits objects away, however I can't see the simple way to cut away an outer edge.

so say you have a square block and you want a round cut along one side, I can do it if its like so )_| but how do you do like this (_| the round bit begin on the edge. I think you call it quarter bead.

Hmmm. Easiest way is probably to make a cylinder, cut away half. Make a divided cube--so you have points in the middle to join the cylinder center vertices to--and remove one face of the cube. Then merge them together. You can use Snap Vertices by Distance with a small distance to merge the points together so you don't have to snap them by hand.

That will give you something like this:

Thanks again Lisa, so the long way is the only way, be nice if they could make a cut inside out function, not that I would see much use for it except for doing this.

found a site that had some objects to practice making so been trying ways to build them, plus getting my head around how the features work.

cheers.

Anytime!

Yeah, you might be able to do it with the boolean tools on the object menu, too, but I don't think you'd get as clean geometry in the end.

Another way to do it is make a cylinder, select half of it,(red) extrude along normal, delete the surfaces you dont need,(red) selct the vertices counterclockwise and do a crtl+shift+s to create a ordered surface.(green)

I am trying to cut the top and bottom curve of this object from a box.

Would be easier to build the full curve and cut off the box section.

Anyone know a good web site where you can find simple objects to practice making that teaches you how to do those shapes?

Hmmm. I don't know of any sites off the top of my head, but I bet some college drafting classes might, and a lot of college classes put their materials online. I remember making odd shapes like that a lot in drafting class, although the class I took was pencil-and-paper.

For what it's worth, here's a quick video of how I'd tackle it:

Thank you Lisa,

That video is very informative , have seen in a few seconds where I have be going wrong doing something else, I see its a bit of working out what the shape is then pull or pushing bit afterwards.

Now try out following it as it played .

edit
been watching the video and I am a bit lost on how you are getting the vectors into a straight line.
I see when you drag over them, they turn green, what I can't make out is do you press a key to line them up or what, can't get it to do that bit.
cheers
