what are the possiblities?
Hi.
I am an architect. I am a long time AutoDesk, ArchiCAD, 3DVIZ and Artlantis user. I hate OS and Win and I am now more and more seriously considering the big switch to Linux. I gather, this program is usable on Linux. What I am looking for is something comparable Autodesk's Architectural Desktop and/or archiCad. I generally design in 3D, so the ability to easily create wall like objects with windows and doors is very important. Secondly, odd shapes, angles, blobs and such are important as well. Are there any programs for Linux that can be used in an architectural situation? Thanks |

Hi Yes to the question of this prog running in Linux, and yes you can design architectual Buildings structures but not to an engineers scale, but to see your design in real world on screen rendered walkthrough and stuff.
Hope this as help any Dave |

Re: what are the possiblities?
You absolutely could create things to an engineering specification; although, the tools you already use in an AutoCAD, for example, probably have built-in features that automate some of the processes you'd have to figure out more mechanically in AC3D. That's the "tolerance" part of an architectural or CAD software that AC3D doesn't specialize in. Or, for machined parts, your tools would also have some kind of data plugins that would enable you to get plastic mockups created for prototypes.
But, you can "get down to the fraction of a mm" you need and have it reflected in your models, for sure. It just might not be the exact best tool for that.

Re: what are the possiblities?
hi I just wanted to throw my two cents worth into the lot.
since you say you are an architect it would be difficult (well for me at least XD) to determine how long or wide your structure is. I think the best approache for making buildings would be autocad. autocad has way more functions that will make your model easier to create and manage.
