Google Earth
I have started playing with Google Earth
In order to import/export 3d files, I need a tool to create *.kmz format files. I found this on the site called SketchUp... Quote:

KMZ Format
Sorry.
I am attempting to create three dimensional objects/buildings to be used in 'Google Earth Plus'. (Its a free world photomap from satelitte from Google) Can be found at http://earth.google.com/ The program has a built-in polygon maker and the result can be extruded to form simulations or likenesses of buildings, but is quite limited. 3dS files can be exported to another routine (that does not seem to work) and the resultant *.kmz file can be used to bring Google Earth to life by having close approximations to the actual buildings. Quite neat. I reasoned that AC3d, a program I love using, could export in kmz format as well. Google publish the vertex priority and the method to be used for assembling visible faces. Alas, it is beyond my scope and I wondered if anyone else had been able to write a routine to allow AC3D to export in kmz format. What would I need to be able to create a plugin? Never done that... I dont have a C Compiler, though I am capable of working in MS VB. Can anyone help? Kizzie. |

Re: Google Earth
This may become more interesting now that SketchUp is released as a free version, bought out by Google, no export of other 3D formats, only KLZ for Google Earth.
I was looking to use it to make buildings and towns around the real terrain heights, so I can build more accurate towns for Targetware. Import and export would be great if possible.

Re: Google Earth
sketchup is a quick simple 3d modeler that specializes in straight objects, as far as I know of there is this sketchup plugin for sketchup pro 5 which lets you import models from google earth, than I suggest exporting that model into 3ds format from sketchup and import into ac3d.
I have not tried this method because I gave up on sketchup a few months ago since ac3d is more capable of creating better works and lower polycount models wow my sketchup words line up on the left side xD
