Default Need Help UVing Please

Hi folks,

I'd really like to make a concrete tunnel section, but whenever I try it, it's a nightmare to create the UV's for it. I have the texture and everything, it's just applying it, as it's a bendy tube. If anyone could help or advise, I'd be very grateful.

Glen.

You should upload your geometry, or at least a picture of the wireframe so we know what we're dealing with... Although, I have to admit, UV isn't my strong suite...

Hi,

Here's the .ac file in a .zip. I thought I had the map last time I tried this, but it has gone missing and I can't find it, annoyingly.

Basically, it was a tiling texture like the tunnel in the image, complete with keystone.

Thanks,

Glen.

OK, I'm not the best at UVing, but this is how I approached the problem:
  1. First I set all the surfaces to the same material (yours was already that way)
  2. Then I set all the surface to two-sided. I find it easier to work two sided, sometimes
  3. Then I chose a location for the seam. In this example I chose the bottom, but in your picture I might have picked under the piping on the side or top, assuming separate geometry.
  4. In surface mode, start selecting the surfaces in your seam. One surface in each segment, touching the previous surface.
  5. After you select a few, change their color (it makes them easier to select or deselect later)
  6. Choose "Edit -> Select Loop" or hit the lower case L. If your lucky, this will select all the seam surfaces.
  7. Change all the seam surfaces to the same color, a different color than the main tube. In the example file the seam is orange, and the tube is white
  8. Still in surface mode, choose "Select surfaces with the material" on the tube's white color
  9. Enter the Texture Coordinate Editor and hit the LSCM button.
  10. Adjust to taste.

Hey,

Thank you very much for all your help! I just have one question at the moment: Which button are you referring to? I don't appear to have an LSCM button in the coordinates editor. :/

Thanks,

Glen.
