Default sketchup to .obj

just to get this understood,
when i convert a sketchup model to .obj for use in X-plane
i need to completely re-do the texture file.
Is that correct?

anyone exerience in doing that efficiently?

background info: .skp textures do not come as power of 2 (length and height ident.) dds files but as .jpgs.

one of ac3d's downsides is that in the .obj-format, object groups or surface groups do not remain, all you get is a spread apart bunch of triangles which you thoroughly need to regroup for coordinating with texture file.

Default Re: sketchup to .obj

The Obj format was originally designed for single objects but there are ways to break up parts by using the "o" lines in the obj file - which AC3D should use to split the model into objects. I'm not sure if Sketchup supports this. Some software has settings which may add this functionality - might be worth checking.

You might try Collada (.dae) as an export from Sketchup as an alternative to obj.
